Muay Thai Classes in Arlington, Virginia
District Martial Arts offers Muay Thai classes in Arlington, Virginia coached by Marcos Vasquez a 3x World Champion, #3 ranked USA WBC Muay Thai fighter with an international professional record of 23 wins and 4 losses, and Carlos Garcia. Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand and the most complete striking system in martial arts. Known as the Art of Eight Limbs, it uses fists, elbows, knees, and kicks eight points of contact that give practitioners striking options at every range. It forms the striking foundation for virtually every competitive MMA fighter at the professional level and is one of the most effective self-defense systems available for real-world standup situations.
Training Muay Thai at DMA in Arlington, Virginia delivers a complete workout: cardiovascular endurance from the combination drills and pad rounds, full-body strength from the kicks and clinch work, and coordination from the footwork and defensive movement. A single Muay Thai class burns between 600–900 calories depending on your size and intensity consistently outperforming most traditional gym workouts in the same time window. Members looking to complement their striking with a recovery and mobility practice often pair Muay Thai with our yoga classes.
Meet Your Coaches
Marcos Vasquez competed in Muay Thai on an international stage against fighters from Brazil, Thailand, Chile, and beyond. He has trained at elite Muay Thai camps in both Phuket and Bangkok and is a multiple-time world champion at the top level of amateur and professional competition. He teaches at DMA because he loves the sport and loves developing fighters at every level.
Carlos Garcia brings competitive experience and a technical coaching approach to the program, working alongside Marcos to ensure every student from day-one beginner to advanced competitor gets quality instruction.
What a Muay Thai Class Looks Like
Every class follows a structured format: warmup and footwork drills, technique instruction, pad work with a partner or coach, bag rounds, and cool down. You do not need experience to join. Every technique is taught from the foundation footwork first, then punching, then kicking, then elbows and knees, then clinch. The progression is logical and the coaching is hands-on. Students who want to sharpen their boxing fundamentals alongside Muay Thai will find both programs run concurrently at DMA with significant overlap in the striking curriculum.
For those interested in competition, DMA’s Muay Thai program connects members to regional and national events through Marcos’s network in the WBC Muay Thai and broader combat sports community.
The World Muay Thai Council recognizes Muay Thai as one of the most complete standup martial arts systems in the world, a distinction built on centuries of refinement in competitive combat.
